Is there any freeware to scan my hardware or any new hardware and search the
internet for the best
available update?

alternatively, can windows xp do the same thing for me?

I haven't found any.

Try DriverView.exe from

http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/

This will show you a list of your current drivers.

You can check the varoius home pages for updates.

alternatively, can windows xp do the same thing for me?

The Windows update supposedly will check for driver updates, I haven't
seen one in months. I guess that the writers don't do a every good job
of coordinating with M$.

Does anyone else have any ideas????
