Is there an update for spell check in Word?

We are trying to spell check on a letter. The word instruction was typed
without the s and spell checker did not pick it up. We then purposely typed
the word boat by spelling it baot and once again nothing was picked up. It
doesn't matter what we mispell, the checker is just saying complete at the
end. Any suggestions?
