I need a file which I can use as an indication that sp4 has been applied (I
mean, if this file is absent, the sp4 has not yet been applied). Does
anyone know of any such file?

thanks.

.
Right Click My computer and see what is listed. Or go to
Computer Mang. and click System Information/system summary.

Thanks for the response, but I don't need something eyeballs can detect, but
something a batch script can detect.

Look for %WINDIR%\Driver Cache\I386\SP4.CAB

If the SP was installed after the system was built, you will also find

%WINDIR%\ServicePackFiles\I386\SP4.CAB

I had to chase these down some time back when writing a hotfix
installation script that needed to verify that the user's machine was at
the SP level appropriate for the script.
