Hello all:
I have been looking around on this subject for a while to determine some
info about the registry. I am getting mixed messages.
What I want to know is when you delete keys from the registry does it leave
wasted space in the file or does it just close up?
In other words does the registry need compacted to remove wasted space like
an Outlook Express file after many messages have been deleted? Also can the
registry get fragmented?
I have read that it does and does not need compacted and also that it does
not get fragmented.
I ask for two reasons.
Reason 1 In the world of Portable (Usable from flash drives) software some
of are setup to actually write to the registry and then when the program is
closed remove the keys that were temporarily put there. Just wondering what
this does to a registry with repeated use of this type program.
Reason 2 This website has a program that is suppose to compact the registry.
I decided to try it in a non critical computer. I installed a clean set of
windows and ran the tool without installing or removing any programs. Sure
enough it said it was able to compact the registry.
Any thoughts on this would be great.
Thanks
Vince
