Is that true: XP restore points deleted by Vista in dual boot?

I have just learned, that while having dual boot system (XP and Vista), each
time I boot to Vista it will erase my restoring points (System Restore) in
my Windows XP.
Is that true?
Where I can read more about that?

Hi Jack,

Other way around. It's XP that deletes Vista's restore points. It cannot be
avoided if the Vista installation is visible to XP. The (obvious) solution
is to make it not visible, and this can be done via the use of a third party
boot manager or by running bitlocker if you are using Vista Ultimate.

Hi,

Did you turn it off momentarily? Run disk cleanup? Install a service pack?
All of these actions can erase restore points.

No. I done nothing. No new software installed, only automatic Windows
updates.
I reinstalled my Win XP 10 days ago (clean install).
Manually I set my restore points (2 points), restore dual boot (Vista is on
separate harddrive) and let Windows to update itself (my C drive has 160GB
free space!)
Yesterday, when I wanted to restore my XP to the earlier date I did not find
any restore points, except one being set just yesterday (sic!) (is it
co-accident ?) at 12:21:12 AM .
Please note that that time is so characteristc !!!!

Hi,

No, it wouldn't. However, there are several Windows Updates that do remove
all older restore points, and according to your other post you had just let
XP do this.

That is not what I posted Jack. I said that the restore points in Vista are deleted when you boot with XP. The mistake on part was that I misunderstood your original post. Upon re-reading a bit more you posted that you are losing the restore points on XP. I read it the other way around.

As pointed out in your other posting in the other newsgroup Vista does not remove the Restore Points in XP. See
the answers that you got in the other newsgroup where you have also posted.
 
Are you sure about those updates, Rick?
Do you know more about it: which ones and why they do that for?
Why MS does not warn users that installing particular update may cause lost
of restoring points?

Hi Jack,

A specific list? No. Some updates do that to prevent the user from restoring
to a point that would cause an issue for the updated files. Why isn't the
user warned? I don't know, but I do know that some would probably balk at
installing a critical update if some glaring warning came up every time, and
that defeats the purpose of getting the updates out.
