Since a few days I found in my WinXP+SP2 installation a file

C:\WINDOWS\svchiost.exe

But the "i" in the filename is not a real "i" but an "i" with an accent on top.
Is this a valid program ?

Virusscanner does not show any viruses.

Assuming it's a US or NA language:
AFAIK, NO! That looks like a virus or malware component of some kind. Have
you run virus and spyware checks? If not, I think it's time to. If you
need help finding same, come back and ask about it.
If it's german or whatever, I don't know; never looked into it that far
but I doubt that would account for it.

Wolfgang,

Don't think so, anyway I don't have svchoist.exe. The file svchost.exe is
valid.

Hi Wolfgang,
It is not windows Processor and shouldn't run on your system, try scan for
Malwares/Viruses or look for new Installed Softwares from unsecure source you
downloaded recently and uninstall the software and Delete the entries/Traces
for it from your system.
Scan online from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com
http://www.avast.com
http://www.trendmicro.com
for Malwares download these Utilites:
http://www.safer-networking.org for Spybot S&D
http://www.lavasoftusa.com f or SE for personal use
HTH.
Please let us know your progress.
Regards,
nass
