encoroporated is this program safe to use please?

Read for yourself: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/features.shtml

With anything that shares, you have to restrict access to your computer. Scan things
you download. etc.

That's like asking if it is okay to leave the gate unlocked because you've
heard there is something wrong with the lock. The lock is fine. Leaving it
unlocked will introduce problems.

Limewire software is fine, but the concept is built in sharing files with
other users on the Internet. That's the problem.

1) I would suggest you using FROSTWIRE that is an free clone of limewire
with no adds or spyware
http://www.frostwire.com/

2) Mp3s cant have viruses inside them....

3) scan all your downloads with an antivirus

It would seem that Limewire doesn't have any adware or spyware, therefore no
need to use a clone when you can use the original
2) Mp3s cant have viruses inside them....

But other filetypes can, obviously. She didn't mention MP3s so can't assume
she only wants to download them.

you are mistaken. I seldom make mistakes Frostwire is better since its
opensource, does not filter
searches, and has no advertisments
read here:
"
The FrostWire Team does its best to maintain good relationship with the
LimeWire project. The FrostWire Team, all of whom are still members of the
LimeWire open-source community, disagrees with LimeWire's decision to
consider filtering content on the Gnutella network (LimeWire has not
implemented this type of DRM technology into their client as of yet).
However, we will continue supporting the LimeWire client development and do
not wish to make fundamental or drastic changes to the LimeWire core itself.
FrostWire will not break with LimeWire's design philosophy.

FrostWire, unlike LimeWire, will never offer a PRO version. The FrostWire
project will always remain strictly non-profit without any bundled software,
including advertisements, spyware, malware or any code outside the scope of
the general network that can transmit private information. FrostWire will
always remain Free as in both price and freedom."

Also I know that she did not say about downloading mp3s alone, however
limewire has moslty mp3s..
but because there are other files too thats why I told her to scan
everything with her antivirus....

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't "sharing" files, especially MP3's, at no cost
illegal? Does it really matter that it will infect your system etc?

It's a brilliant piece of software and is malware & spyware free, however
some peasants do post virus infested files on the network so make sure your
a/v is up to date.
All the best.

Shut up.

And who is to say that in a few moths they start adding adds?

Open source is a garantee that the program will remain "good"

Your newsreader seems to have "Self Nuke" enabled by default.

The program itself is not bad, but many of the things that unknowing
users get from it are compromised/infected.

More than 90% of the machines I see with Limewire installed are also
compromised with Browser Helpers and trojans.

LimeWire, like most other peer-to-peer file sharing programs, is a
wide-open gap in your computer's security, and an almost guaranteed
source of malware (not from LimeWire. itself, so much, but from giving
thousands of other people -- not all of whom are well-intended --
access to your hard drive.)

It depends upon the specific files being shared, but, by and large,
yes, the purpose of LimeWire is to facilitate the illicit distribution
of copyrighted material.

Depends on what you're sharing. You could be sharing a Linux free distro
which is legal. Or even free MP3s.

Not if you have it configured properly.
