Is it possible to speed up the opening of Word

All I want to use in Word (apart from words!) is the outline function and its
marvellous collapse / expand facility. Everything else, repaginating, auto
whatevers, I'd be happy to turn off . It would be great if I could open my
Word documents instantly instead of having to wait 20 or 30 seconds each time

Often the most time consuming parts of opening a file are the repagination
and request for a virus scan. IMO you should not turn off the virus scan.
And then of course there are add-ins, etc.
