Is it possible to run clips backwards

i will be filming a show jumping event in November using two Sony Digital 8
cameras. An event in which i expect a few mishaps, my question is: is there
any way i could rewind those mishaps back to tape, in slow motion, as they do
on TV. Or whould i need third party softwear
