is it possible to convert a powerpoint slideshow file to an avi f.

I'm creating a title seaquence on MS Powerpoint to put into a video editing
program. Can I convert the slideshow to an avi file so that I can open it
using the video editing software?

PowerPoint really isn't the tool for doing this.
If your title sequence contains no animation then export the slides as PNGs
using File>Save as and import them into your editing program.
And most editing programs have a titling feature.
