Is it possible to access an XP hdd from another hdd with a fresh xp install

Hi all.

I've had to re-install xp on a new drive for a friend. I want to access
their old drive that had xp home installed on it.

How do I go about it ? Can I simply install xp home on the new drive and set
the 2nd drive up as a slave and copy files across ?
