Hi all,

I brought an Acer computer a couple of years back and now want to
reformatt HDD and reinstall windows XP, which came pre loaded on the
machine, and start fresh.

My problem is I have lost Disk 1 (system disk i think) and Disk 2 is
majorely scratched and wont load. SO what I was wondering is could I
borrow a friends system and recovery disk and use my product key (OEM)?
Would think work if I was to use a Dell recovery disk (OEM) and my key?
And would it be legal????? I understand that I would have to use a WIn
XP HOME OEM version the exact same as what I have now.

Also when I reformatt and install XP again would it do anything to my
second HDD? This is a seprate drive NOT a partition! I have backed a
lot of stuff up to that, opossed to burning countless DVDs and want to
make sure it wont automaticlly go deleting anything off it.

Thanks in advance

You need to contact Acer support and order their
recovery CD. Your Acer Product Key will only work
and activate with the Acer recovery CD.

You can only "borrow" recovery CDs if the recovery CDs were made especially
for t he very same model as yours. You can not borow recovery CDs from a
different manufacturer nor from a different model. It just will not work!

AS for legal. unknown????
