Is DNS Required for a Workgroup?

Hi,

If you have a Workgroup and NO outside access is required to the Internet,
is DNS necessary? I've a Client who only wants his employees to be able to
access the INTRANET, which will be located on one of the systems in the
Workgroup.

you could put entries manually in the hosts file

The proper file to put these entries into is the LMHOSTS file.

The lmhosts file will populate the netbios table which is the FIRST place
checked for name resolution.
