Irritation Error Message on Exit

When I exit Powerpoint 2007, I get an irritating message "Powerpoint has
encountered a problem and needs to close". Of course, this is after jt has
closed. Other than that, it seems to work perfectly. I don't get this
message with other Office applications. Any ideas on the cause and how to
fix it?

That didn't help. I have two printer drivers installed, one for an HP 7350
and one (default) for an HP 7180. I still get the error message on exiting
PowerPoint.

Make sure you have a default printer driver installed (I know, sounds
weird.) Use the one listed here as a test:
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm

Then check for add-ins. Office Button | PPT Options | Add-ins. What's listed
there?

I also checked my default printer, but it was there and appeared to be ok.

I checked my add-ins (and it's not easy to find these). The trick is to
click on "manage addins". It turned out to be a problem with the add in BCM,
which is not a big surprise to me because I've been struggling with BCM
errors for the last 10 months. I removed this add-in and it resolved the
problem.

Good luck,

Thank you for your specifics. You are correct -- add-ins are often a cause
of errors on exiting.

I had Office 2007 installed 5 months ago, no problems. upgraded Vista to SP1
two days ago, every since had the same problem: PPT error upon closing PPT.
Installed the "known good" HP printer driver as default, error went away.
Now researching why my actual defaul printer, an HP Officejet Pro 7680 is
causing this problem. Thanks for the fantastic insights -- who would have
ever guessed it's a printerp driver issue????

You're welcome, Ross -- and thanks for the thanks. This is one of those
things that drives all of us users to the loony bin!

It's interesting that Vista SP1 triggered the issue for you. Hm...
