irql not less or equal

I posted this on a Vista group but no help yet, and thought I'd try
here...

I get the BSOD when trying to install vista RC1. The error message is
"irq_not_less_or_equal".

What could this mean?

When I boot off of the DVD the install procedes but I cancel it as I do
NOT want to do a clean install. I am not about to spend the money on a
partitioning program just to use it once or twice in case you suggest I
create a new partition to do a clean install from. I hope when the
final version comes out I will be able to install it then.

My specs:
E6600
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
2gb OCZ Platinum Revision 2
x1800xt
Windows XP Pro

Thanks!!

You will need to be patient and keep Vista questions in the Vista
newsgroups if you want Vista-specific answers. The error message you
are getting means there is a problem with hardware drivers. It is
likely that the beta version of Vista you are using doesn't have the
drivers for your hardware and so the install is barfing.

Since RC1 is old already - there was an RC2 and now RTM will be
available to the general public at the end of 1/07 - you should
probably just give it a miss for now.

In the meantime, you should download the Vista Upgrade Advisor and see
what it says about your hardware.

As for partitioning, you can always use the BootIT NG trial version but
it's a pretty geeky program. You know your own skills best.

A better solution IMO is to just throw in a second hard drive and
install Vista on that if you have a desktop. That way you won't hose
your XP system.

I ran the upgrade advisor and there were some driver issues, but no
message about not being able to install Vista. I was under the
impression that the program would install first regardless of the
drivers, and I would update the drivers AFTER the install.

As for the second hard drive, I did that but got a message about the
"system volume information". I did a format from within Win XP on this
second HDD with the disk manager utility. When I booted from the VISTA
CD I did not get the option to format like XP does. I am guessing this
is because it is a preview version??

Thanks!

Vista issues are not handled in this newsgroup. Keep with the Vista
newsgroups. Here is a link on BSODs in XP. Don't know if it will help.
