IrfanView - does IPTC survive editing?

I have both a JPG Comment and an IPTC caption in a batch of images. I
cropped some of them in IrfanView. The Comment survived but the IPTC
Caption was deleted. Is that normal behaviour please?

Terry, when you save a file in Irfanview (v3.98) an options dialog box
will open (if you have that option checked in the save file as
window). In that option dialog box check "Keep EXIF, Keep IPTC and
KEEP JPG comment" and Irfanview will retain all of that information.
