Are nubers like these, 192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0
192.168.0.1, the ones used by web sites to track who you
are? Can they be changed? How do they work. THanks!

You must have an IP address to access a web site. No way around it. Many
web servers log visits, so assume nothing is private.

The addresses that you listed are private address (192.168.0.10,
192.168.0.1) are reserved for private networks. (255.255.255.0 is a subnet
mask.) Those numbers are translated to a public IP address that your ISP or
network admin provides.

forgive my ingorance, and I appreciate your reply, hwoever
is that something from AOL, or my computer. As well, how
does it work. If you are logged into a website, are they
reading my personal information, or just my user name from
aol and the like. Thank you very much!

one more thing, the reason i ask is i believe my usernamd
and password were compromised. I don't know how the ipo
or ips address stuff works. Thanks!

If you are logged on to a website, they are reading the IP address from the
WAN side of your connection. It has nothing to do with usernames or your
internal IP.

If your username as be comprised, it is probably a result of lax security
procedures on your network.
