when listing network options, I selected "internet
explorer" now in the ipconfig.exe there is an IE icon. I
can't access the Internet and I sense that I chose the
wrong network connection. How can I get my ipconfig.exe
back to "square one"?

Hello!
I can't get you.Now if you open command prompt and type
ipconfig.exe > enter
the command Prompt window shows the IP Configuration. And in
that window there is no IE icon.
You may test the server simply by pinging the IP
address/default gateway.

Huh? What are you talking about?

IPCONFIG has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with Internet Explorer.
They are not related. Internet Explorer is a Web Brower; ipconfig is
a small program that gives you relevant information regarding your IP
setup on your network connections.
