benefits? nope at all except if you got someone/something to hide from.

No point in it at all unless you wanted to hide something - but even then you would be re-directing all your traffic through some unknown proxy server, which would be much worse!

Using a proxy isn't illegal as there are many legitimate uses, but hiding your IP to do something like download pirated software is illegal anyway (if that makes sense?). If it was something really important, a user could be found out anyway I suspect. :)

Hi Ian,
I was thinking about the firewall value of hiding your IP but there wouldnt be any really....i read some more on it from the link and i mistakenly took the understanding that it would provide protection whilst surfing....just not from viruses but phishers and the like....oh well. I'm off to COD4 thanks for your input folks.
