Matt

Been running XP on home desktop Dell for 2 years. No
problems with connecting to MSN. Recently got Norton
AntiVirus and Firewall- still no problems with MSN.
Purchased SBC DSL and its been a nightmare. Tried
connecting with ethernet and USB with no luck. After 5
hours on phone with SBC they say the problem is that my ip
address is changed to 169.254.92.102. I uninstalled
Nortons and spoke with Symantec who said that firewall
wouldnt change the IP address. Can someone help me with
this?

Well, they're the ones that control the IP they give you, so maybe you need
to call them again and ask then what you're supposed to do about it.

Hi,

The 169.254.x.x IP address you have is an autoconfig IP that XP uses when it
cannot get an IP address from a DHCP server. Does you DSL router provide
DHCP address to your client(s)? If so there appears to be an connectivity
issue between your XP client and the DSL router.
