Iomega 250GB USB HDD

I have one of those freaky problems. On a WXP Pro Dell Inspiron 8500
Laptop, it is unable to recognize this drive. The laptop has 2.0 USB
ports and the drive is readable on an identical laptop in my office.
The freaky part is, I have two of these Iomega drives and my laptop
connects and recognizes the other one perfectly. I sent back the
"suspect" drive to CDW and received a "new" one but the same thing
happens. The wizard starts and tells me that the hardware cannot be
installed and that the drivers are not found. The software that comes
with the drive does not help any, it simply installs Iomega's back up suite.

Any suggestions?

Lou,

I wish I could help, but I'm having a similar - perhaps worse - problem (see
my post above "External hard drive causes reboot"). Looking at much earlier
posts in this group (from Google groups), it would appear that external
drives and USB2 problems go way back. What is really odd is that quite a
few of these show inconsistencies between different computers, as you (and
I) have found. Out of interest, are both your laptops running identical OS
versions? Or is the one that works running SP1 and the other one SP2?

Hi Jeff,

Both the laptops are running XP SP1. It's a really weird problem. I
must have installed something that has caused a "selective" recognition
situation since I can connect to the additional iomega drive but just
not this particular one. Go figure...!
