Invisible files

I seem to have a computer within my computer.

I have a whole set of files that do not appear in Windows Explore.
Although, via tools, I have checked that I want all files to show, I have a
whole set of files--including my mail program--that are located in an
invisible file titled "appli~1". Most of the programs shown further up on
the tree are re-listed in this file.

I cannot access subfiles in this section via explore or via search. The
only way I can get to it is to right click on an E-mail attachment and click
"explore attachment".
Doing this shows me that my E-mail (Eudora) attach file is several levels
down under the "appli~1" file and the "appli~1" file is located on the same
level and right below my "Windows" file in Explore. But when I open Explore
this file does not exist. When I search computer they don’t exist. When I
*.mbx to find my E-mail mailboxes, they are not found.

“Windows†is the last file listed under “local disc C “ when I open explore.
But when I explore attachment from E-mail, the Explore screen that opens
shows that there are other files after “Windowsâ€. One is “appli~1†and the
other is “doc~1â€. Each have hundreds of files and many appear to be
duplicates of what is above under c\docs and settings.

Is this how it’s supposed to be? If so, how can I find files in this
invisible section of explore?

There are at least two "Application Data" folders under your user account.
The short name for those folders would be seen as "appli~1"

In Folder Options> View, you have selected to show hidden files and
folders. You also need to remove the check next to "hide system protected
files." Then using Explorer, navigate to
..\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\
and to
..\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\

In both of these locations there will be folders for various applications.
The folders hold various data files - sometimes settings, often user data
files that were created with each application. I suspect that some of the
files and folders that you are looking for are stored in these locations.
