I'd like to input historical stock prices into a database,
and pull annualized returns from that data for any time
period. I'm new to Access but am interested in learning.
Is this way too hard for a newbie?
I don't think you have described a "way too hard" problem, but I have not
done stock calculations/tracking and don't know the definition of
"annualized returns" as you use it. If you'd clarify, perhaps someone can
give at least general suggestions on calculating the number you want. It'd
help to know what information you will include in your table of "historical
stock prices," in detail.
Obviously, you are going to need at least Fields to identify the stock,
contain the price/value, and date the information... how precisely you need
to "date the information" depends on your requirements for defining the "any
time period" and how you calculate annualized return (which might or might
not include other-income/dividends during the period, or income attributable
to the period, as well as realized or unrealized captial gain). Also,
obviously, if income is included in the calculation, it must be available
from the data, too.
