inventory tool

I am looking for a tool that will allow me to do a workstation/server
inventory. Something a little more sophisticated than a ping sweep.
Something that will not be dependent on the workstation being online
at time of inventory. Something that will interrogate dhcp or maybe
the netbios table. Something that leaves a longer footprint than just
a ping sweep. Thanks

Microsoft used to have "Inventory Analyzer" which did alot of what youre
looking for,its been replaced with i guess MSIA,you can get it
