Invalid syntax error

I have downloaded several MS security fixes lately but don't know if one
has caused the problem I'm having. When clicking on a link, either a
link I have sent or one which has been posted by others, I invariably
get the message "Invalid Syntax Error" and the page won't open. Often,
if I try again later, the link opens.

Would anyone have any suggestion for fixing this? Many thanks.

Sorry - I'm using Windows XP, SP2.

Go to Start/Run, and type: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL Then open IE, Tools menu,
Options, Program Tab, and click the "Reset Web Settings" button.

I'm afraid that didn't clear up the problem, Mark. I'm still getting
the "Invalid Syntax Error" message.

My only other guess would be an inadvertant check placed in the 'use
automatic settings' checkbox, in IE, tools menu, options, Connections tab,
"Lan Settings" button.

I'm crossing my fingers - it seems to have cleared up - at least, right
now!

Many thanks, Mark.
