the Judge reports that the advice received from Carey has solved his problem.

Why don't all you sad, sick lonely people go away. Or, al the very least -
get a life.

You are all a bunch of cowardly loosers, hiding behind the web to hurt people.

Aside from that, none of you are able to "really" help people in your own
right.

Well, your Honor, there is a new, improved WGA waiting for you to
download it at Windows Update. Maybe Carey's fix will work for it, maybe
not. Are you going to run on over to Windows Update right now to give it
the old college try?

Alias, who's waiting to see what happens to the guinea pigs like the
Judge before downloading it.

And why, exactly, should the OP have to do this? The OP has not signed
on as a tester or troubleshooter for WGA III. Why can't the OP USE his
or her computer instead of troubleshooting a flawed program for
Microsoft, a program that has no benefit to the user and, due to the
fact that it calls home, can be described as SPYWARE!?

Silly person. Because he wants his computer to work.

What would you have him do? Chant incantations? Burn incense? Dance a jig in
the full of the moon?

Good for the Judge. Of course, not much was written on how the
problem was actually solved. Here are some possible solutions:

1. The Judge was told to do a telephone activation and a
telephone number.

2. The Judge was told "tough luck" and now go buy a legal
copy of Windows XP.

3. The Judge was told that he will be given an activation
code if he were to acknowledging that he was in possession
of a non-genuine version of Windows XP, and he would turn
over the name of the dealer that sold it to him.

....and so on. Any single one of the 3 above examples would have
solved the problem.

But if one were to install and run both WGA and the diagnostic
program, take a look at the information that is being sent to
Microsoft..."voluntarily", of course. It tells a lot about the
status of the particular machine and how to access it (if one
had the wherewithal to do it). Where it may go and what might
be done with it is anyone's guess. There was never any true need
for WPA in the first place and now this, the abominable WGA. Is
this the harbinger for Vista?

May well be. Despite words from the likes of the Judge, people will not
like having to prove over and over again, that they didn't steal their
license/copy of Windows. These are bully tactics, plain and simple, and
most people don't react well to bullies.

Excellent! But use it first as shielding from the telephone
companies and then wireless scans from Microsoft. The No. 1
data-mining organization in the whole world is now the U.S.
Department of Justice/Homeland Security. Wonder what it will
kill for to get access to all of the Windows computers that
are on the internet, nay, what Microsoft will sell out to keep
its monopolistic status functioning. Anybody remember the last
time when Microsoft really did anything for the user out of the
kindness of its heart? And now 4 versions of WGA in less than a
week? Hmmmm. <:-}}

Do you want to grow up and be like Carey too? Here's how:

This is a bit OT, but I read in the business section of the
newspaper how apple
is opening stores that are offering help for the apple users. They
have no
salesmen working on a commission. When people go into these stores
and
see the ease to use apple products they will buy.

Yep, that's one of the reasons you pay so much for Apples. Not to
mention locking the operating system to the hardware takes care of the
piracy problem.

Just a question, and maybe I should start a new post, but how is it
that on a public forum you have all been given Microsoft titles? IE,
MVP, MCSE, etc. You do not work here and your lack of skill is scary
at best. Microsoft would probably take your certifications away from
you if they saw your handy work here. Please if you want bragging
rights do it on your own site but not in a public forum.

Sorry guys, i didn't reveal how the prob was solved, all i did was go to
www.microsoft.com/genuine and follow the instructions, including what
features the product key sticker had on it (hologram, colour, etc) and that
was it, easy as proverbial pie.

The point Ghostrider and various others have made is valid, i wanted help,
NOT to be used as advertising space to have a go at Carey Frisch and
Microsoft, all the idiots who do this should be banned from leaving posts,
see how they like it when they need help

Who is the "you", you are referring to?

Who made you the boss? and what kind of title is IE?

The point is that I am not the boss and that neither are these
posers...

I just want to know who in their right mind would pretend to be from
microsoft and posting it on an open forum.

Moderators, are cool... But not MCSE or MSD, or MVP... please, get over
yourselves...

Is it the title that makes you important or do YOU make the title worth
having? In the case of these posers, they are all hidding behind the
title that they don't have the right to own...

The person comes to you with a problem and you send them to your
homepage? You cannot fully develop the solution so you send them
hunting? Where does microsoft teach that?

Might as well be spammers... Probably are too...

P.S. in corporate and some private enterprises "IE"="For example"

I've never seen anybody here pretending to be from Microsoft.

This is a peer support newsgroup. We are all just Windows XP users here,
helping each other if and when we can. We are not Microsoft employees (not
even those of us with "Microsoft MVP" behind our names; that's an honorary
title for having provided consistently helpful advice) except for an
occasional employee who posts here unofficially on his own time.

There are no moderators here either.

There are several articles around the net that prove that a Mac is a
better buy
after one purchases the software for windows.

This not a forum - your radar has put you in the wrong place.
You should get some replies to this one - I hope.
Ah - you have been observing 'forums' then.

It is a kid - seems a bit thick - must have been educated here in the UK.

Some dumb company then.

i.e. as it should be written, oh stupid one, is in Latin 'id est' meaning
'that is to say'.
Now on the other hand e.g. is in Latin 'exempli gratia' meaning 'for
example.

Hope this helps - though I doubt it.
