Hey,
Strange problem, when i turned on my pc this morning, a message came up
saying that my version of windows might be a fake, BUT, this is the copy that
came with the comp when we brought it. Unfortunatly cos i've modded the thing
the shop won't help me. Fair enough i've changed everything but the CPU, but
the copy of windows is definatly valid, it's printed, in a box and shiny so
if anyone knows of a solution, please let me know
Thanks in advance

Please follow this WGA troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Validation" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in your detailed post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

What is generating the message and does the message say it is fake or that
you should check that it is? Microsoft updates have recently been adding
Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool to its High Priority updates.
If you're sure it's real and you have the box, product key, etc., you can
install the WGA tool and let it check.

And why, exactly, should the OP have to do this? The OP has not signed
on as a tester or troubleshooter for WGA III. Why can't the OP USE his
or her computer instead of troubleshooting a flawed program for
Microsoft, a program that has no benefit to the user and, due to the
fact that it calls home, can be described as SPYWARE!?

Just get rid of windows all together, who needs their lack of respect
for the user? With windows out of the way you can live unhampered
again. The way life is supposed to be...FREE

Maybe, rather than complaining, you could have done something to help
the OP in their current position? While you may disagree with WGA, the
fact is that you've not done anything to help the OP.

Judge -

Glad to hear the following advice offered in the WGA newsgroup
solved your problem!

The solution: Visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and revalidate.
Reboot your computer after this is done.

(Sometimes revalidating and rebooting syncs the Windows library files)

If WGA weren't around, the OP wouldn't need any help. Asking paying
customers to stand in the crossfire between MS and the crackers is not a
reasonable thing to ask, especially when you consider that WGA gets
cracked minutes after its release. You call the police or the FBI if you
think someone stole something from you, not force your paying customers
to help you "catch a thief". Soooooooo, the solution to the OP's problem
is simple: eliminate WGA completely and call the Police or the FBI if
you think someone's stealing from you. Then press charges, take them to
court. Ya know, the established procedure to positive legal action. I
also think that MS should send techs, free, to all paying customer's
home or office that request it, to remove WGA from affected computers.

Just ignore the silly sarcastic postings by "Alias".
Apparently, he has very little desire to actually
help a fellow Windows user with any
meaningful or useful advice. He is more
of a "troublemaker" than a "troubleshooter".

My posts aren't for you or Leythos, trust me, and I have helped users on
these boards but after all the lying you do, what's one more?

Unfortunately, the end result of your assistance through
the disgorgement of Microsoft KB articles is for the user
who has an invalid copy of Windows XP, especially through
no fault of his or her own, to buy a new valid version for
himself or herself. This unfortunate customer pays out an
additional $150 to $300, depending on what had to be bought.
Is this real trouble or not? WPA and WGA has done nothing to
end software piracy but it is helping to inflate Microsoft's
sales figures.

Thank goodness we made the decision years ago to never sell
any software as OEM builders. Think of the trouble of trying
to placate irate customers whose WGA's tell them that the
genuine Windows OS sold them was fraudulent.

Where is the so called "help" in your message then? Is it a case of
glass houses and stones?

Don't be silly!! Without Windows you can't get fresh air and most
probably you will starve death as most people on this planet have
Windows on their system.

how do you do this if you, yourself, don't follow your own advice?
you've not done anything to help the OP in your above message!! this
link is quite appropriate here:

TROLL
Exactly how have you.
There is very little help for flawed or corrupted software.

This is a bit OT, but I read in the business section of the
newspaper how apple
is opening stores that are offering help for the apple users. They
have no
salesmen working on a commission. When people go into these stores
and
see the ease to use apple products they will buy.
