"Invalid argument" error

I have a back-end and front end files, I am using Access XP. Yesterday all
the front-end files stared to display the error "invalid argument" when users
were trying to update/edit records.

I went to the help screen and this is the message that was displayed:

Invalid argument. (Error 3001)
You tried to perform an operation that involves a routine in a DLL, and one
of the arguments to the routine is invalid. Check your entry to make sure you
have specified the correct arguments, and then try the operation again.

I looked at the back-end file and I was able to open all the tables except
for one. The one table I cannot open displays the same error "invalid
argument" then it indicates that the table cannot be displayed in datasheet
view.

I have a two-day old backup, tables in this file can be opened, they are OK.
My questions are:
Is this backup file going to be damaged if I make the back-end?
was the error caused by the server connections/network? (we are using win NT
4.0)
Is there anything I can do to prevent further errors?

Thank you for your help.

At times like this, nothing beats a good backup. Good on you! Double bonus
that you have the database split.

Make a copy of the backup file. If it also corrupts you still have the
original backup file.

Are you using subdata sheets and/or lookup tables at table level? If so, I'd
dump them in a heartbeat.

Below are some resources for corruption. My paper discusses things to help
prevent corruption problems. You've already done the first which is frequent
backups.

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
towards the bottom this page:

Thank you everything is back to normal.
The IT guy said it was Access related, I'm still thinking it was network
related. (maybe the heat wave in Chicago)

I should have noticed your user name earlier. The way the Cubs and White Sox
have been beating up on the Cardinals, I might not have helped! ;-)
