I don't tthink it is all that widespread yet. It was hyped for so many
years that many thought it wouldn't happen (it has - but just like any
emerging technology - it isn't exactly "available everywhere" yet.

If this technology is available in your country then a good
starting point would be to ask your electricity supplier.
They can tell you straight away.

FWIW I have been looking at this technology for at least 25 years. Back
then I was working for an office automation company that was being
approached for funding from a number of start-ups in the area. It
didn't work well from a number of reasons. First, noise caused bit
drops and caused retransmissions, limiting transfer speed. Next, a
selling point was that no rewiring of a large business office building
is necessary because power lines go everywhere. Well, that not right
because transformers block or severely reduce the signal. This can be
ameliorated using capacitors across the transformers. But that requires
using electricians who don't understand what the caps are for... The
bottom line is you could not tell if BPL ("Broadband over Power Lines")
would allow talking to the computer in the next office! Finally,
special drivers were needed to run the BPL interface cards, creating a
continuous update and compatibility problem.

I recommend stringing CAT-5 cables and/or wireless connections. It's
off-the-shelf and works with no aggrivation.
