Internet problem

I have recently been having problems with my internet and am unsure of why.
I have DSL lightning link and have always had fast and reliable service.
However, suddenly and recently my computer takes several minute both to load
webpages and sign on to AOL Instant Messenger. When I finally get through to
the site I aim for, I am able to surf normally and quickly, but then
sometimes the interenet seems to have to connect again and slows down. When
I finally sign on to AIM, i send a message and it takes time to actually be
sent instead of popping up right away. So the internet works but something
seems to be jamming it somehow and all of a sudden it seems to have slowed at
points. My brother has a computer running on the same LAN and uses the DSL
connection and is having none of the same problems. Please help. Thank you

The first troubleshooting step is to insure that the computer is
completely virus/malware-free. Go through these steps systematically:

When you know the machine is 100% clean, if the problem is still
happening post back with more details and the results of your
troubleshooting.
