A browser window has started opening itself up behind windows explorer windows
-- All it says is 'blank page' in the address bar. If i minimize windows
explorer theres nothing behind it but then when I close it, after a short
delay it closes to reveal the 'blank page'. I just tried it again and sure
enough there it was but when I closed it it closed the page I'd been viewing
[windows newsgroup] but not this 'new thread' window. Can anybody help me
please.

Hi Dan,
1- The best is to scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan
http://www.avast.com ; if you don't have Av you can get a free one from there.
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
Then try to Clear your caches, delete Internet Files and cookies then Disable
the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow your browser been
hooked by Add-ons or Plug-ins. On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Networking and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons (You can Renable them Later
one-by-one and see which one will be the culpirt or you can Search for them
to see if they Legitimate Add-Ons or not) and click [OK] to confirm your
Changes.
Reboot your machine.
Do you have any other toolbar installed on your browser and MS Messenger on
your desktop or something like that.
HTH.
Regards,
nass

So which site are you visiting when this happens? Give an example.

Could be the site uses script timers. I use PopUpCop which can disable
script timers without totally disabling scripts. With just IE, you can
disable scripting (so all of scripting is disabled, not just some
function within). The site opens another instance of IE but with a
hidden window. That hidden instance is running a script which has a
timer. At whatever intervals the script has been coded for, the script
will open another instance of the browser. Usually you can see this by
looking in Task Manager and noticing there is a 2nd instance of
iexplore.exe that cannot be accounted for. Many popup blockers can
eliminate this nuisance (of opening a "popup" but hidden instance of
IE), but some can't. Most free popup blockers are pretty weak.

Sounds like it also about time to get anti-malware software and scan
your system for pests.
