internet gets slower with use

I'm using WinXP SP3 with cable internet connected directly to my computer (no
router). Basically, I can use internet for a few hours, then pages start to
load slower and slower to the point where it doesn't load at all anymore. I
then have to reboot Windows to get speed back to normal. Also this doesn't
happen in Linux. Any suggestions?

Since the issue doesn't happen in Linux (presumably you are dual-booting),
then something you are running in Windows is causing the issue. Start with
the normal malware troubleshooting. If the computer is clean, see what you
have running in the background.

Start>Run>msconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab and
find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK
out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll
get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box that says in
effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.
