Upon booting the computer running Windows XP Home and
connecting to the internet when I bring up Internet
Explorer nothing happens, except hour glass. If I press
Control-Alt-Delete Internet Explorer is listed with the
message "not responding." If I right click and choose "Go
to process" it takes me to explorer.exe and not
iexplorer.exe. If I choose end the process Internet
Explorer disappears along with my tray bar and desktop
icons. If I then choose restart from the task manager
windows begins the shut-down process and during this time
Internet Explorer pops up with my home page momentarily.
When windows restarts a second time Internet Explorer
works fine.

I have tried to reinstall Internet Explorer but get the
message during the install "This software you are
installing has not passed Windows Logo Testing." "This
software will not be installed." HOW CAN THIS OCCUR?
WINDOWS OWN SOFTWARE DOESN'T PASS ITS OWN LOGO TESTING???

HELP HELP HELP!!!

1. Your anti-virus application should always be disabled before
downloading/installing from a MS page, Norman.

2. Try a Repair of WinXP or, if necessary, reinstalling IE via the methods
described in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

3. When all is up and running again, visit Windows Update (see #1 above) and
install recommended updates/patches. I suggest you get all of your future
updates via Windows Update instead of picking & choosing the ones you
*think* you need.

4. When installing an update you receive the following message: "Software
you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing"

Hi Norman,

The error message has to do with the IsInstalled setting in the registry:
This edit corrects it.

Run Command - Reinstalling Internet Explorer (Line 29)

Manual Edit:

Re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"
