Gary

I try to start IE (running Windows XP) and I get a the
error report notice asking me if I want to Debug, Send
Error Report, Don't Send. Tried sending error report and
that ends up causing more error messages. If I click don't
send, I get "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer will now close. If you continue to
experience problems, please restart your computer."

Restarted several times in the last week to no avail.

Tried to download IE 6 (had to use Netscape to do it) and
install it. Installed successfuly, but as soon as I tried
to open IE, recieved the same error message.

This problem started when I tried to launch the Pinnacle
Studio website from the "About" pull down menu in a piece
of Pinnacle software. That is when I first got the
message, and I've not been able to use IE since. Somehow I
suspect this software has accidently corrupted my IE. HOW
DO I FIX THIS? I would very much like any help in solving
this as without IE I am unable to update XP with the latest
patches.

thanks

When you click the Internet Explorer icon, window may flash a second and quits. Or, it may show an Error-Reporting dialog. This may be due to a malware Browser Helper Object which causes Internet Explorer process to terminate. If you see the Error-Reporting dialog, click "to see what data this report contains" and identify the Module Name causing this error. In most cases, it may be the spyware DLL. Therefore, reinstalling Internet Explorer [in case of a spyware DLL] may not help.

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explorer
1. Click Start, Run, and type inetcpl.cpl. [or control inetcpl.cpl]
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.
