Internet Explorer Toolbar problems: Attn. Don Varnau, Robert Aldwinckle, & Ramesh [MVP]

Thanks to you all for your suggestions to my 5/16 & 17 messages.
Regrettably, not one of them worked! (In addition, I have another computer
with an AutoComplete problem that is causing me to tear out my hair!!!)

My husband is a software engineer. He didn't understand Robert's
instructions about setting up keystrokes for About:com. He tried to
re-install IE from a download and a lot of other things. After working for
two weeks with a toolbar that wouldn't lock -- he suggested we simply
migrate to Netscape.

I'm sure you all know the feeling -- I'm not one of the people who routinely
blasts Microsoft (well do I remember the evil crashes with Windows 3.1 in
that era) but there's gotta be something better than Internet Explorer with
its zits and bugs!

Anyway, we're relieved that the toolbar problem is better and we can get
back to our work. Again, appreciate the time you spend in this newsgroup
trying to help other exasperated folks.

Have a good weekend!

....

I have just re-read my instructions in case I made a typo.
As I thought I had written detailed instructions for allowing you
to experiment with your problem without requiring a network connection
by using About:Blank instead of your normal Home page, which I was
assuming would require a network connection.

I included a summary of the idea in case it might be lost in the details:

<quote>
Please create a Desktop shortcut for About:Blank and give it a keyboard
shortcut of Ctrl-Alt-1.
</quote>

Subsequently I referred to Ctrl-Alt-1 is some controlled tests I asked
you to try. Note: tests require feedback more informative than
"not one of them worked!"

If I had thought that my audience was a "software engineer" I would
probably have put much less detail and explanation into my suggestion.

I notice also that regardless of whether you couldn't understand the
test method I was suggesting that you still seem to be blind about the
underlying point that everyone who was trying to help you was making:

<quote>
So far you have given no indication that you have dealt with the possibility
of malware in general, only that you have dealt with the possibility of the
specific kind of malware which are sofware viruses.
</quote>
