When I try to open my Hotmail mails with Outlook I receive the following

It sounds to me like a dcom issue.
Go to start > run >dcomcnfg and hit enter.
Expand "component services" expand "computers".
Right click on "my computer" and click on properties.
click on "default properties" tab. Verfiy defalt authentication level to
"connect" and default impersonation level to be "idenfity".. If not, make it
so.

Now, click on "com security" tab. click on the first "edit default" button
and make sure that "SELF" and "SYSTEM" is listed with "local access" allowed.
click on the second "edit default" button and make sure ADMINISTRATORS,
INTERACTIVE AND SYSTEM are listed with "local access" allowed.

Even thought restart is not necessary, you can give it a try too.

I gathered courage and did what you suggested. I found that all alternatives
were as you recommended, so I had not to change anything. Then I restarted my
computer, as recommended, but when I tried to open the Hotmail mails I found
the same error. Any other suggestions?

Hi Ajith,

I'd be curious as to what you find out as I am experiencing the same
problem. Not sure if my situation got to where it is in the same
fashion that yours did, but it might help you to know some specifics
about mine. I had to do an in-place reinstall of Windows XP (Home
Edition) on my system, and as a result, had to go back and reinstall
ALL of the XP, Office XP, and Internet Explorer updates (too many to
count). This is now the only remaining problem I have on my system, and
I found the Microsoft support document that talks about installing
Office XP Service Pack 3 to resolve the problem:

However, when I try to "reinstall" Service Pack 3, the program tells me
that update is "already installed." (Which of course, it originally
was, and a check of my About Microsoft Outlook box confirms its
presence.) However, this is most certainly the "original" update, which
is now not functioning properly since the Windows XP reinstall. Because
Add/Remove Programs does not allow one to selectively remove this
Service Pack 3 update only, I am assuming at this point that I am going
to have to completely uninstall Office XP in its entirety, and
reinstall all the applications and updates from scratch in order to
solve this HotMail access problem. Unless you find another solution. Or
someone else tells us of another solution. Or maybe I find one. That's
all I know for now.
