Hi I have windows vista ultimate and just recently IE7 started locking
up randomly on me... Its hard to describe what is happening other
than I am surfing the web and after a while (random amount of time) IE
just locks up, if I try clicking in the IE7 window at all the cursor
changes to the busy cursor in the IE window and it never changes. The
only thing to do is to terminate the process and restart IE... Any
idea on how to solve this, I tried looking up uninstalling and
reinstalling IE but could not find any good information on how to do
that in Vista, any ideas???

Thanks

Jeremy.

There's a fix for this bug at Windows Updates.

Alias

If you have Flash installed, make sure you are running the most current
version. There was an update earlier this month that resolved a lot of
problems.

Of course, after the most recent announcements of vulnerabilities, I'm
thinking about abandoning Flash altogether!

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I would say this is probably a Flash player problem. Make sure you are
running the latest version which I believe is 9.0.114 or something close.
Go to the Adobe site and UNINSTALL Flash with THEIR uninstaller first. If
you don't uninstall Flash the new version will fail to install and you won't
even be told of the failure. After upgrading make sure that you have the
latest version. The Adobe site has several ways of making sure the right
version is installed. My IE7 no longer locks up. If your not sure if Flash
is the problem, one of the symptoms is when IE7 locks up, CPU usage goes to
50% or 95% for the iexplorer.exe process.

Instead of me writing everything that was already mentioned, I echo Frank Saunders post to your issue in the strongest of terms

I would first try running IE without any add-ons. Click Start, type in
Internet Explorer, select Internet Explorer, No Add-ons. If the problem is
an add-on, try uninstalling and reinstalling Flash and QuickTime plug-ins as
previously suggested, or one at a time disable add-ons til you find the one
that's causing the problem. Other ideas are discussed in the following
tutorials.
