Internet Explorer problems

I hope someone can help me out here. I have Windows XP Home edition and
every time I try to use IE6 I get a message that says "Internet Explorer
has
encountered a problem and needs to close..." and it asks to tell Microsoft
about this problem. I have tried to send the error report but I don't
think
it goes through. I have internet access because I can still get my e-mail
and Instant Messenger. I installed the MSN browser and went to
MicroSoft's
web site and I tried reinstalling IE but it says there is a newer version
already installed and won't go any further. No changes had been made
recently and when I tried to use the system restore feature it says
something like "no changes have been made so the system cannot be restored
to that date."
