Internet Explorer problems

every time i click on a link in i explorer i get a small window
about 1 inch square come up and have to expand it
Also the the hourglass thing is there when i click the mouse on
any thing

I am running xp pro sp1
internet explorer 6.0.2800 1106 xpsp2.030422.1633
update versions sp1; q330994 q832894 q823353

i have scanned for virus trogen and adware and come up clean

any help to remidy this would be welcome

Try resizing the window to the size you want then hold the CTRL key while you
close the window.Next time it opens it should be at the specified size.

tried that it don't work
i should have mentioned its when the link is opening a new window
