Internet Explorer Opens then closes

Hi,

My boss is not able to open Internet Explorer. It opens for about 2
seconds,
then closes. I have gone into the properties and set everything to default
levels
(I think everything), and deleted the temporary internet files.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks

I've got exactly the same problem.
Just started today.
I'm doing a McAfee virus Scan now.
Any solution?

Hello - very interesting 2 minutes ago my boss asked me why his was doing the
same thing. I came here looking for an answer and found an earlier post that
said the Yahoo! toolbar causes similar errors. I went and un-installed his
Yahoo! toolbar from the control panel and sure enough - it works fine now.
Try this and good luck! Otherwise - I don't have a clue

Hi Sandy :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

Try Start->Run->
sfc /scannow

Have your XP CD ready

also...

Clearing the Temporary Internet Cache -

Check to see if you have any ad or popup blockers, if so disable them and
see if that helps.

If they have the Google or Yahoo toolbar or the Yahoo Companion disable or
uninstall it and see if that solves the problem. These are known to
sometimes cause this problem.

You should also check for any scumware on the system which can cause this
problem:

Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans, malware,
worms, etc and neither can other aware or spyware related programs such as
AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the proper definitions. So even if you
run it and nothing shows up, it does not mean your system is clean. It
takes a series of programs to fully clean your machine. Some very aggressive
and damaging variants of malware can replicate themselves repeatedly, or
mutate, if not removed properly. Follow the steps here:

and where.

Same problem, began having issues after latest windows defender checkpoint..
Are other users also using windows defender. IE opens then closes, but
other GUI's are working fine on the internet.

ok, scratch the win defender as a possibility. as helmet said, he/she
disable yahoo toolbar, did same here and ie is functioning again. Yahoo
stated that changes were coming, but they look like bigger changes than they
planned.
