Internet Explorer Not Starting

If I double click the Internet Explorer icon nothing happens. If I open Task
Manager and view the processes tab, there is an entry for iexplore, if I kill
this process and then double click Internet Explorer, it opens correctly.
This problem is repeatable, everytime I wish to open Internet Explorer I have
to go through this process.

No faults related to this are shown in Event Viewer and and a scan using
Microsoft AntiSpyware shows no problems. The PC is running XP Service Pack 2
and has all security patches applied.

Does any know why Internet Explorer is showing this problem?

Thanks

I have the same problem. Have reinstalled IE several time, even
deleted all the registry keys but it still does it. I find that even
if you kill the process and try again it doesn't always work. It seems
to be fairly random.

I too have something similar, although this is on a W98 system. And
what helps for me so far is to close Windows Explorer, OE6, and
Outlook 2000 before trying to open IE6. Have you two tried this yet?

I rarely ever use this W98SE laptop anymore. But dang MS' recent
security patches in the last 6 months or so has really slowed down
my Windows 2000 and XP systems so badly. Thus this W98SE is running
faster, believe it or not. Although this problem wasn't there before
the last security upgrade.

Cheers!

Exact same problem here. Also noticed that if I tried to open Netscape (when
explorer does not open) it refuses to open too. But when I delete the
Iexplore.exe processes from the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) it lets
Netscape open up.

I know for sure I dont have any viruses because my McAffee Suite is current
and I check for spyware regularly (MS Antispyware and Yahoo).

Any suggestions/tips anybody??????

Thanks,
SV

As it was the last thing I installed. I uninstalled Microsoft Antispyware,
the problem still occurs but seems to be less often, but as it last month or
so I have install Visual C# Express Beta 2 and received updates to McAfee
Firewall, Viruscan and Privacy Service, it is very difficult to track down
when the problem started.

Do you have the Google toolbar installed?
Try removing it if so.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion Robert, but I do not have the Google toolbar or any
other toolbars installed.

Looks like this one's died a death. It's still happening for me. I
uninstalled mcAffee in case that was causing it, but that hasn't
helped. Still happens about 30% of the tme for me.

Well I may be speaking too early but I think I have fixed it for me.
Read this KB article and went through the regsvr commands. I am sure I
have done this before, bu there seem to be one or two different ones
here. Also I made sure there were no processes (especially background
iexplore) running when I did it and immediately rebooted afterwards.

Good luck.
