I am working at an ISP Call Center, we are getting an
influx of calls from customers saying that IE6 with Win XP
keeps crashing//or saying it has encountered an error and
needs to close, they reboot, they unistall and
reinstall//most do not have firewalls or spyware, any
suggestions to what is going on...did MS send out a new
patch that is causing havoc? Any suggestion would be
great, please post here or email me direct at
(e-mail address removed) or (e-mail address removed)
Thanks so much!

I have the same problem. I can dowload email through Outlook, open Yahoo messenger and other things though. I attempted several different restore points, ran the anti-virus software, deleted the temp internet files, cookies, etc. No success. I called Dell and they said that they had about 11 calls already. It only affects XP home users. They asked if I downloaded any updates lately so it sounds like something Microsoft sent out may have had bugs or something. They said that a fix is going to be emailed out to users.

where did you find the info that they are going to be
sending out a fix? thanks

Same here. Started yesterday. Hopefully we will get
direction from Microsoft soon!

Also the same. Is anyone having trouble viewing pages
that Active X is restricted.

I have the same problem that started yesterday morning. IE keeps shutting down. I'm using Windows XP Professional. I've installed the latest Windows updates like security patches and SP, but still nothing

Out of desperation, I installed Netscape7.0 and it's working fine. If anyone hears anything on this problem with IE, please post ASAP. Thanks

emailed and posted

This is often caused by spyware. No anti-spyware program I know of catches
everything. Also, if they are running WinXP without a firewall they are
asking for trouble. WinXP SP1 comes with a firewall which appears to do the
job for me.

Eliminate any scumware. See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I called Dell (my computer's manufacturer). They said they had an influx of calls and that they would be emailing a fix when it was available. Probably by today.
