Internet Explorer (IE) and IE based apps post XP sp.2 Install

Type of connection: DSL.

Since loading sp 2 for Windows XP:

1) Links on web pages (when they appear!) perform
unreliably, that is linked clicked on goes to a page
indicating that the server cannot be found. After more
than one try this situation is usually fixed. What's more
pages very often do not complete the loading process
leaving images and other portions of the page somewhere
out in the ether. Sometimes they don't load at all
leaving a blank page in place.

2) Email using Outlook is unreliable: Outlook now
connects unreliably with mail servers indicating a
connection problem. Shutting down Outlook or the
internet connection and restarting one or the other or
both generally remedies the problem.

3) Connection/processing speeds in general seem now be
like using a telephone modem.

Turning off the popup blocker and the firewall does not
seem to remedy these problems.

HELP!!! If anyone out there can....

Many thanks!!!

suggest you reset IE to default and re-register some dll's

1.. launch IE, go to Tools & then Internet Options;

2.. on the General tab (which it launches to) delete cookies and temporary
internet files, including all offline content;

3.. go to Advanced tab, lower right click on restore defaults and click
Apply;

4.. go to Programs tab, middle left click on reset web setting, (recommend
you deslect reset homepage);

5.. go to Privacy tab (if present), if Default Levels button is active
click it;

6.. go to Security tab and for each zone set levels to Default Levels if
said button is active; click OK.

Next, re-register all necessary DLLs:

Start-->Run-->regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Msjava.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Browseui.dll
Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shell32.dll
