"Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working" on ALL File Downloads

Hi! I installed Vista Ultimate last night and all is well with everything,
except that when I try to download ANY file anywhere, a dialog box pops up
that says "Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working." I think it allows me to
restart the browser from the dialog box. I have tried this from another
IE-based browser (Maxthon) and have had the same problem. I am able to
download from Firefox 2.0.

I have tried turning off protected mode and user account control, but it
still has the same problem.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

What else have I installed? Lotsa stuff - this is my home PC that has been
upgraded from Windows XP SP2. There has been nothing installed after the
upgrade, though, except sound and video drivers. IE7 was misbehaving before
I did any driver updates, though.... Don't know if this helps - if you need
any more info let me know. Thanks!

No, but I'll give a shot.... I'm not at the computer in question right now -
I'm at work and it's at home. I'm just looking for things to try... Thanks,
Mike!

Mike -

I'm home now. I tired both of your suggestions, and IE7 still crashes when
trying to initiate a file download.

Any more suggestions out there? Thanks!

I've tried what was suggested to me -

- Running IE7 with the Phishing Filter off (disabled);
- Running IE7 without add-ons.

I still get the "Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working" error when I try to
download a file. (It works fine in Firefox, of course...) Does anybody else
have any dieas what could be causing this? Thanks!

I wish I could say it was a specific file - it started when I tried to
download "Crap Cleaner" from http://www.ccleaner.com from its alternate site.
It now extends to EVERY file I try to download from the web. It happened
just now when I was trying to download a gadget from the Gallery to the
sidebar. The event log says it's happening in ntdll.dll... Thanks!

might run some good cleanup scans.
for virus/trojan/malware.
there are some online ones if you do not have any installed.
most of the virus program publishers have one on heir web site.

I have done what you recommended - I ran a full virus/trojan/spyware etc.
scan with PC-Cillin 2007 and found nothing except for cookies. I removed the
cookies. Still no change.

I tried reinstalling Vista Premium as an upgrade, and still no change.

I tried re-registering DLLs: urlmon.dll, actxprxy.dll, shdocvw.dll,
mshtml.dll, browseui.dll, jscript.dll, vbscript.dll and oleaut32.dll.
Interestingly enough, they all re-registered EXCEPT shdocvw.dll and
mshtml.dll, which give the message:

The module "XXXXXXXX.dll" was loaded but the
entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.

Make sure that "XXXXXXXX.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file
and then try again.

If I remember correctly, SHDOCVW.DLL controls file downloads from Internet
Explorer. Could a corrupt shdocvw.dll be causing my problem? And if so, how
do I correct this? I guess I could ask the same question about MSHTML.DLL.

Thanks for your help!

Mr. Freeze

I am currentally using Windows Interenet Explorer 7, or it's supposed to be
the latest version w/updates.

I am using Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit version.

I am also using the Microsoft Finger Print reader w/latest updates "That do
work with my Vista", which I might add is a great program because I hate
typing in or double clicking passwords and information like that.

Ok here is my problem, within the last few days or so "Which I didn't
notice this problem untill a few days ago", When I log onto IE 7 and
internet my computer has started freezing and then ask me to make a
selection either close the program or reload it or stop it. It's really
frustrating. I have a feeling everyone is going to say it's the Finger Print
reader, but it doesn't happen with everything, I wish I could be more
specific as to when it happens but it seems to have a mind of it's on. As of
now I have UAC and IE7 Protected mode "ON", and plan to keep that on.
Although I have noticed that certain site's like yahoo's podcast site want
let me d/l or listen to their podcast on my computer with protected mode on.
Any idea's or thoughts would be appreciated. I am no expert and I know a lot
of you out there are! Thank you for your time.

One last thing and I hope I don't catch any crap over this but I have a
friend that has a forum that is awesome and I would like to list his link
here for anyone who likes sports. It's called "The Sporting Nation", and
here is the link

http://z6.invisionfree.com/That_Sporting_Nation/index.php

Do me a favor and tell them Dirty-Bird sent you!

That's not why I posted this message though, I really do need some
information about this problem. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks
for taking the time to read.
