Internet Explorer - Frozen Solid

When I go to surf on IE 6, the browser completely freezes
up and then I can't shut IE down, nor can I do anything
else. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't bring up the task manager and
I have to do a hard crash shutdown. Do I have a trojan or
worm or is it something else? I do have Norton 2003 Anti-
Virus installed, updated and running and I have all the
latest MS patches etc for my XP O/S.

This happened to my last week and one too many shut downs and upon reboot it said "Missing Operating System" and my system was DOA. I had to reformat my drive and re-install EVERYTHING. I suspect it was a virus (it was my one system that I didn't have NAV installed).

I suggest you do a system restore to a check point to any time prior to this issue occuring (and even go back a bit further), then clean your system, run ad-aware, Norton, etc.

Hello John,
If you're are as up to date as you say you are it is probably unlikely that
a virus or a worm is contributing to this problem. I'd suggest opening a
support incident with Microsoft to help determine what is causing the
problem. There is not enough information here for us to be of assistance.
