Internet Explorer does not open a xls file (without xls extension), even if MIME type is set

Hello

I have the following problem:
I have a web application which returns in xls file. The file is returned
without extension, but I have set the MIME type correctly. I cannot modify
the application to return also xls as extension.

Any ideeas?
