My brother's laptop with XP Home SP1 and IE6 SP1 has suddenly stopped
connecting to the internet via Internet Explorer. I don't know when this
started because I did not have access to the computer at the time. I get a
DNS error even when trying to use an IP address to access a site. The
strange thing is, not only do other browsers such as Netscape 7 work fine,
but opening a page by typing it into the address bar of *Windows Explorer*
works just fine. I've tried just about everything to resolve this problem.
There is no proxy server set up and reinstalling IE by editing the registry
key yields no result. My next step is to do a reinstall of Windows XP. Aside
from the fact that it is a lengthy process, I have no guarantee that this
will help unless I do a complete reformat, which is highly undesirable.
Thanks in advance,
