When I attempt to open my Internet Explorer, I get a
message that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem
and needs to close. Sometimes however, my IE does open. I
have tried everything that I can think of, including
updates. If anyone can think of anything else to try it
would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have any spyware removal tools on your
system, you might want to install AdAware 6.0 from
www.lavasoftusa.com, open it and run a scan of your system
for adware and spyware. I have seen various spywares
cause squirrely problems with connection and proper
operation of browser. I run both AdAware and Spybot on my
XP machine. Neither program finds everything, but between
the two, I can keep the system relatively spyware free.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
