Internet Explorer Delays in going to sites that are not MSN relate

IE6 with SP2 works fine on msn.com, hotmail.com, and anyother site that you
get to by clicking on a link on msn.com.

However, if I type a URL such as www.google.com, www.yahoo.com.
www.americanexpress.com, IE 6 will sit there for about 1 minute before it
will go to that page. I know it's not the internet connection since I have
5MB download. I also connect another computer to the wireless router and I
have no issues going to websites outside of msn.

I have also run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy to insure that this
was not being caused by ad / spy ware.

So, I think it has to be sometype of setting or something in IE6 or on my
computer that needs to be changed. I am almost at the point of reformatting
my hard drive to start fresh........ but want to avoid that if I can since
it takes so long to get back up and running. Any help will be greatly
appreciated!!!!!

I did that the very first thing. It's the most obvious and basic step. Any
other tips / suggestions anyone?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Hi,

I had the same problem and on of the other listing from Rob helped out on
this one. The response that Rob had and the one the worked for me is as
follows:

"Hi,

I appear to have got it sorted! It seems to have been a problem with
the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service. I've disabled the service
and now there is no delay opening Windows Explorer or in prepending
URL's with http:// automatically. I'm sure it's the same problem as
the other chap experienced (http://www.aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=16583)
because I noticed in his list of services that he was running HP
software that allowed him to connect to a HP printer via wireless like
me - and I'm prepared to bet that if he looks in the event viewer he'll
see that the WIA falls over on startup and every so often after that
(RPC errors in my case).

Regards...Rob"

Interesting. I also use HP software to connect to my HP Officejet 7410 via a
wireless router. So how do I disable the Windows Image Acquisition Service?
And...... what will I loose by doing that? Will I still be able to print
wirelessly to my printer and scan images? Please advise as soon as possible.

The delay I experience after typing in a web address until the browser goes
to the site is driving me absolutely crazy!!!!

Thanks in advance!
