Internet Explorer and Locking Up Options and History

C

ctyggerpooh

We having problems withe foolish employees not getting a clue and
deleting history and clearing out temporary internet files.

Is there a way to block them from doing this? We are running a SBS
Server 2003 and we would like this to be a group policy if possible.

I am sure someone somewhere has done this out there with a network.
Please advise on the best way to get it started.

Thanks,
Christine

Hi Pooh!

Knee Ho!

You can modify your .adm scripts to write the following registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel

create a DWORD value called 'History' and give it a value of 1

This will disable the 'Clear History' button on the General tab of Internet
Options.

But a savy user will be able to circumvent this and gain access to the
History folder through their windows explorer. I am not sure of the privacy
issues involved in your region if the purpose of this is to be able to
monitor employee web surfing. There are commercial products available to do
this that may better suit your needs.

You will find some sample .adm scripts included in the IEAK for IE6 or
search msdn for adm scripts.
